July 6, 2009 marks the forty-seventh anniversary of the death of William Faulkner’s. Although at the time of the death of a person is not the kind of thing we (as a rule, to celebrate what, no piñatas?), May not forget that Faulkner has written heavily on themes of death and decay, and he would never have thought to raise us in the face – or anyone else – mortality.
As Faulkner would have us deal with the reluctance, it seems, was his handwriting, which teems with convoluted surfaces, incredibly long sentences, classical allusions, Time Shifting, shifting narrators and really, really – what’s it called? – Large Vocabulary. Read the rest of this entry »
